I decided to set up a Foundation whose purpose is to protect the environment and to encourage sustainable development (...). By definition, this is a common global challenge that requires urgent and concrete action in response to three major environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity and water.

A tripartite convention has just been signed between the Monegasque government, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Earth Institute of New York’s Columbia University. It aims to protect the environment and biodiversity in Mali whilst contributing to the development of village communities through the “Millennium Village” pilot project.

The tropical rainforests house at least 75% of the world’s biodiversity. The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the association MC2D have decided, for 2010 - the Year of Biodiversity - to focus on the necessary and essential protection of these ecosystems.

As the first event jointly organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Bureau Veritas Monaco SAM, the conference on Responsible Construction in the Principality, which took place on Tuesday 26th January 2010, was a resounding success.
